The William Floyd School District Art Department, under the leadership of Fine Arts chairperson Theresa Bianco, was recently named a recipient of the prestigious New York State Art Teachers Association (NYSATA) VISION Endorsement for the first time in district history! William Floyd is one of just 26 school districts throughout the state, 10 school districts on Long Island and three school districts in Suffolk County to earn a VISION Award of Excellence for this school year and be recognized as a Community of Excellence in Visual Arts!

The VISION Endorsement is presented to school districts with high-quality visual arts instruction that maximizes learning, expands opportunities for students and offers experiences that spark curiosity, creativity and lifelong engagement. Programs are chosen to receive this award based on a rubric that evaluates the strength of their sequential, standards-based curriculum and the level of inclusivity, equity, accessibility, advocacy and visibility that is offered to their students.

The William Floyd Art Department consistently provides student-artists with great opportunities to showcase their artwork throughout the school year. This includes hosting several exhibitions and events centered around student artwork, such as the annual Districtwide Art Show, in addition to giving student-artists the chance to participate in the design process for murals, yearbook covers, sets for drama/musical productions and many other artistic ventures at their respective schools.

Student-artists throughout grades K-12 also have the opportunity to submit the artwork they create in their art classes for consideration in a variety of local exhibitions. Over the years, their work has been chosen for exhibitions hosted by NYSATA, the New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA), the Suffolk County Art Leaders Association (SCALA), the Shanti Fund, the Parrish Art Museum, the Town of Brookhaven and more. Additionally, many of these organizations have presented William Floyd student-artists with awards and honors for the quality of their artwork.

Congratulations to Fine Arts Chairperson Mrs. Bianco, all of the hardworking, dedicated art educators, and the exceptionally talented student-artists on this outstanding achievement!
