Fashion designer and former beauty queen Vida Doria is presenting her latest paintings in Tapestry of Woven Dreams, a group exhibition opening May 22 at The Podium in Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City.
Known for her eponymous clothing line, Doria has also built a following in the visual arts, producing oil-on-canvas works that often depict flowers and nature scenes. Her style, once closely associated with Claude Monet, has evolved to incorporate bolder color and movement influenced by Vincent van Gogh.

The exhibit, which runs until May 28 at the mall’s second-floor atrium, brings together Doria and five fellow members of Katha Art, a collective of women artists mentored by the late Nestor Villanueva and now guided by Jeff Consumo. Each artist will present 15 to 20 works.
Proceeds from the show will partly benefit selected charities, including ANCOP, as well as Sibol Ning Aeta Foundation Inc. and Mary Queen of Heavens Missionaries.

Doria said painting has become both a creative outlet and a means to help others. She began painting in 2005 after personal losses in her family led her to join a “Paint to Heal” class in Quezon City.
Since then, demand for her work has grown among collectors, with several pieces quickly sold in past exhibits.

The artist said she continues to explore new themes, including waterscapes, while maintaining an emotional core in her work.
Joining Doria in the exhibit are fellow Katha Art members Gracie Aranda, Clarita Lazatin Magat, Bebet Pastelero Sto. Tomas, Salie Henson Naguiat, and Rellie Liwag.
