A year 12 student has been selected to display her artwork at the prestigious Royal Academy of Arts in London.
Tuxford Academy student Ruby Corr’s work will be on show later this month in the The Young Artists’ Summer Show.
Ruby submitted her self-portrait entitled ‘Little Me’, along with thousands of entrants aged four to 19.
All of the artworks were viewed and judged by a panel of experienced and passionate artists and arts professionals, who were looking for imagination, originality and skill, and sought to represent young artists across the breadth of the country.
Commenting on the inspiration behind her submitted piece, Ruby said: “This painting is a self- portrait of myself in 2009. This piece holds a personal meaning to me as it symbolises a significant period in my life before I started experiencing mental health issues. I spent time focusing on the realistic elements, specifically the eyes, to portray that I am still the same person. It’s a visual representation of the changes I have undergone mentally and physically over time.

“It’s such an incredible accomplishment to have other artists recognise and select my work for display. I am beyond proud of myself. It’s an exciting moment, I can’t wait to see what this brings for me in the future.”
Miss Wilkins, visual arts teacher at Tuxford Academy, added: “The art teachers are so excited and proud of Ruby and her unbelievable talent. She is one of the most talented portrait artists that I have seen here at Tuxford, so I was delighted to see that her work was selected for the Young Artist Summer Show at the Royal Academy. This is a huge honour.”
Prizes are awarded each year for inspirational artworks, as chosen by the president of the Royal Academy, and once the exhibition launches, voters can select their favourite artwork in the annual People’s Choice Award.
The show takes place from July 16 to August 11, and will showcase artwork from budding young artists across the UK.
