As a summer blockbuster devoted to René Magritte opens to the public at the Art Gallery of NSW, visitors can look forward to seeing many of the world’s most loved and – it must be said – disconcerting images.

Who could forget the thwarted lovers, their heads draped in white cloth and forever unable to kiss? These fractured souls were in everyone’s school art textbooks.
