The Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, which was established more than 200 years ago, is touring its exhibition at Wyre Forest Gallery in Bewdley Museum.
A private viewing of the exhibition was opened by the president of the RBSA Viv Astling and marked the start of the Bewdley Festival.
The gallery features more than 60 artworks from some of the finest artists working in the Midlands.
The RBSA is one of the country’s oldest artist-led societies and it is unusual in having its own gallery and staff team.
This allows the group to put on a wide variety of exhibitions at its premises just off St Paul’s Square in Birmingham.
The exhibitions feature the work of the society’s 170 members and associates as well as artists from around the world who enter their regular prize exhibitions.
For an artist to become a member of the society they have to show six works at an annual Candidates Exhibition.
These are then voted on by the membership and only those candidates who receive a majority of votes can then join the society.
The current show at Bewdley is a selection of work by the society’s members and associates and demonstrates the wide variety of styles and media from the traditional to the cutting edge.
All works at the exhibition are for sale.
The exhibition in Bewdley can be seen daily from 10am until 4pm from now until Friday, October 25.
