Award-winning artist brings striking Dartmoor exhibition to Chagford this June

An award-winning artist whose work has been exhibited internationally is bringing a new collection of Dartmoor-inspired paintings to Chagford next month.

Painter Beverley Fry and jewellery designer Ann Powell, both based in Devon, will exhibit at No.10 Gallery in Chagford from June 5 to June 10.

The exhibition will feature Fry’s latest paintings inspired by Dartmoor rivers, landscapes, flowers and animals, alongside Powell’s jewellery collection.

Fry, who moved to the heart of Dartmoor in 2023, said the landscape has brought “renewed inspiration and energy” to her work.

She said: “My work is driven by a desire to share how I experience nature, creating an emotional connection with people while expressing appreciation for the lives dedicated to working with the land across Dartmoor landscape.”

Originally born in Canada and raised in Hampshire, Fry first trained as an actor before later studying Fine Art at Margaret Street University in Birmingham. 

She has since worked as an artist for more than four decades, producing portraiture, still life and landscape paintings in oils and watercolour.

Her work has been exhibited across the UK and internationally, including in Miami, Boston, Dublin and Paris, as well as at major London venues including the Royal Academy, Mall Galleries and Chris Beetles Gallery.

Fry was previously selected for Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year, where she painted broadcaster Kirsty Wark.

She has also worked as an artist-in-residence at festivals and institutions including London’s Southbank Centre.

Alongside exhibitions, she has completed commissions for organisations including David Austin Roses, the National Memorial Arboretum and Cannock Community Hospital, where her large-scale watercolour works remain permanently installed.

The exhibition at No.10 Gallery will showcase some of Fry’s newest works created since relocating to Dartmoor, with the artist describing the moorland landscape as a continuing influence on her painting.

The exhibition will run daily from 10am until 4pm at No.10 Gallery, Chagford, TQ13 8AJ.
