Bajan artist Michelle Bowe’s exceptional talent was honoured recently when her painting ‘Sally – The Hawksbill’, was presented to Group Chief Executive Officer of Caribbean conglomerate the ANSA McAL Group, Anthony N Sabga III.
Sabga III was in Barbados for the Anthony N Sabga, Caribbean Awards which was held at the Hilton Barbados Resort.
Bowe’s scenic painting was unveiled at a newly created space at Standard Distribution and Sales Barbados Ltd, Wildey Showroom, solely dedicated to local art.
The artistic experience marked the beginning of a new initiative by Standard Distribution and Sales Barbados Ltd, to host revolving exhibitions of local artists’ work.
Michelle Bowe is the first Bajan artist to be featured in this innovative space, which aims to support and promote the vibrant art scene in Barbados.
In line with ANSA McAL’s sustainability drive ‘Sally – the Hawksbill’ depicts the Barbados Sea Turtle, symbolizing the island’s rich natural heritage and the importance of environmental conservation.
This pre-empts the upcoming celebration of World Sea Turtle Day on June 16, emphasizing the significance of protecting these majestic creatures and their habitats.
“We are thrilled to showcase Michelle Bowe’s extraordinary work and to have Mr Sabga III be among the first to view the wall,” said Standard Distribution and Sales Barbados Ltd General Manager, Renatta Mohammed.
“Our new art space is a testament to our dedication to supporting local talent and contributing to the cultural landscape of Barbados – its ‘The heART of Standard’,” Mohammed added.
ANSA McAL Limited Group CEO, Sabga III, expressed his appreciation for the artwork and the initiative. He stated:
“This beautiful painting of a Hawksbill turtle (known to nest in Barbados between April and November annually), captures the essence of our sustainability efforts and reminds us of the importance of preserving our environment for future generations. We are proud to support local artists like Michelle Bowe who inspire us through their work.”
Michelle Bowe’s exhibition is now open to the public at Standard Distribution and Sales Barbados Ltd.
Persons are encouraged to explore the exhibit and witness the remarkable artistry of one of Barbados’ finest talents; artwork as well as soft furnishings carrying the prints, are available for sale via Standard’s Wildey Showroom.
