SOUTH BEND — An exhibition showcasing the artwork of Saint Mary’s College alumna Mary Ann Roach Butkovich continues through June 6.
Titled “You Paint Too Pretty – My Art Journey,” the exhibit can be seen in the Moreau Gallery at Moreau Center for the Arts at Saint Mary’s College, according to a press release.
Butkovich graduated from Saint Mary’s College in 1964 with a degree in art. She furthered her studies at the Art Academy of Cincinnati and the University of Cincinnati. Her work has been displayed across Ohio in numerous solo and group shows, including exhibitions at the University of Dayton, Bowling Green University, Miami University, the Cincinnati Art Museum and The Contemporary Art Center in Cincinnati.
Her artwork is included in numerous corporate and private collections, according to the release. Butkovich draws inspiration from nature, music and experiences that spark her creativity. She describes art as “oxygen for the soul” and enjoys exploring the tactile and vibrant qualities of paint in her creative process.
Butkovich admires artists such as Helen Frankenthaler, Paul Jenkins and Morris Louis, marking a shift from her high school favorite, Maurice Utrillo.
Butkovich will give an in-gallery talk at 2:15 p.m. June 6.
