The Norton Museum of Art has named a new senior curator of modern art.
Regina Palm, currently a curatorial fellow of American art at the San Antonio Museum of Art in Texas, will take over as the Harold and Ann Berkley Smith Senior Curator of American Art at the Norton on Sept. 30, the museum announced.
A native of Riverside, Calif., Palm has held positions at the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art in Winter Park; the Amon Carter and Kimbell art museums in Fort Worth; the Cincinnati Art Museum; and the San Diego Museum of Art.
She holds degrees from California State University-Chico and San Jose State University, and earned her doctorate at the University of London-Birkbeck.
In her new role, Palm will be responsible for the American and European modern art collections, and lead the museum’s acquisition strategy for modern art.
“Dr. Regina Palm’s experience and expertise in modern art will be an invaluable addition to the institution, especially in her focus on art created after the Industrial Age,” said Ghislain d’Humières, the Norton’s CEO, in a prepared statement. “Rather than separate artworks by their geographic origins, this new structure of the position looks at the breadth of modernism across the globe and allows for an international interpretation of what modern art can and should encompass.”
Palm also will be tasked with devising original exhibitions that center on the artists who defined the late 19th century and the 20th century. Her previous exhibitions include shows about Claude Monet, works from the National Gallery of Scotland, and “Canvas to Clay: Georgia O’Keeffe and Maria Martinez to Mata Ortiz and Tonalá,” forthcoming at the San Antonio Museum of Art.

The Norton, 1450 S. Dixie Highway, West Palm Beach, is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays.
