The Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation (ACLC) invites middle and high school students from from within the Adirondack Park to submit entries to the second annual student art contest. One middle school winner and one high school winner will be chosen to win prizes of $250 for the middle school contest and $500 for the high school contest.
Submissions are due June 30 at the Adirondack Loon Center in Saranac Lake.
The contest is open to visual art submissions of any medium. Submissions should incorporate or interpret the theme, “Loons in the Ecosystem,” into their work. Students are asked to consider the role that each species plays in an ecosystem, and to show ACLC judges how species depend on one another.
“We love loons at the Loon Center,” said ACLC Director of Education and Communications Denise Silfee, “but we also want the public to understand that loons are part of a greater system that includes many living species and natural forces to truly thrive.”
Students in grades six through 12 are eligible to enter. Artwork must be submitted to the Loon Center in Saranac Lake by June 30. Submissions can be dropped off in person at 75 Main Steet, Saranac Lake, NY 12983, or they can be mailed to ACLC, ATTN: Art Contest, PO Box 195, Ray Brook, NY 12977.
Winners will be announced at the Loon Census Afterparty from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 18 at the Garagery in Saranac Lake. Winners do not need to be present to win, but winning artwork will be displayed and the winners will be publicly announced at the celebration.
All submissions will be displayed at the Loon Center through July.
