“Aint it S’Wellsville?” Exhibition on May 4 – May 30, reception on May 13th
From the WCAC,
The Wellsville Creative Arts Centre is proud to announce a new solo exhibition featuring Artist-in-Residence, Eva Gallagher, on display from May 4th-30th, with a reception on Wednesday, May 13th, from 4-6 pm. This exhibition invites members of the community to celebrate the creativity and whimsy of Wellsville, as seen through Gallagher’s surreal, humorous, and emotive work.
During her time in Wellsville, Gallagher completed her visual arts teaching certification and spent time with students in local art classrooms and with young creatives in the area. This show will include work inspired by her students and time as a new educator. Both paintings and ceramic work will be on display. This show is meant to showcase the importance of color, whimsy, and humor in a small town. The artist’s work will be for sale during the opening reception and throughout the show.

For additional questions, you can reach Eva Gallagher through email at egallagher739@gmail.com or the WCAC studio manager at wcac.studio.manager@gmail.com.
Artist Statement – Eva Gallagher
Humour has always been central to my work. What began as a form of escapism during my early life has evolved into the foundation of my creative practice. I work in both two and three-dimensional forms, exploring the conceptual relationships and tensions between different media. My paintings depict surreal landscapes where faces and expressions merge into the environment, becoming subjects in their own right and in their own world. I use the sky to represent the unknown, as it holds both mystery and beauty and suggests possibilities within and beyond reach. Clouds, to me, are harbingers of mood, personifying emotions as people do. There is something so human about the physical world that draws me in, and my paintings are environments and opportunities for me to find what spaces I can occupy, in my own way. In my sculptural work, I maintain a surrealist approach to expressing emotion and my own perception of reality, creating objects meant to occupy physical space. I find interest in navigating where the lines are drawn in representation and expression. I constantly navigate the space between the comedic and the serious, striving to maintain that balance in both how others experience my work and how I interpret it.
