Each spring, the U.S. House of Representatives sponsors the Congressional Art Competition, a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Congressman Eli Crane (R-AZ) recently presented the winning student artists from across Arizona’s Second Congressional District with scholarship awards in recognition of their hard work and talent.
All submitted artwork was displayed at the Phippen Museum in Prescott, where local judges visited to view and evaluate each piece.
This year’s 1st Place winner was Hannah Pryor, a student at Miami High School, for her piece “My Cat”
Hannah will be flown to Washington, DC for an awards banquet and have her award-winning artwork displayed for a year in the U.S. Capitol.
Grayson Edwards, a student from Mingus Union High School won 2nd Place for his piece “The Professional.”
Ethan Orr, a student at Trinity Christian School, who was last year’s 1st place winner, won 3rd Place for “A Stroll in Seoul.”
Clay Witten, a student from Trinity Christian School received Honorable Mention for “Downtown Prescott.”
The People’s Choice Award allows the public to vote for their favorite piece of art submitted to the competition from their congressional district.
This year, the People’s Choice award was given to Lydia Minjarez from Mingus Union High School for “Zebra Eye.”
