Midrand residents looking to explore their creative side now have a vibrant new space to do so, thanks to Arts on the Move, a community-driven art initiative offering Saturday classes in Noordwyk.
Hosted at 9 Kiaat Street, the programme runs every Saturday from 09:00 to 14:00 and welcomes learners of all ages. From painting and pencil drawing to pastels, charcoal, and mixed media, participants are introduced to a wide range of visual art techniques in a supportive and hands-on environment.

The project is the brainchild of Meshack Mashathi, a dedicated visual arts teacher at Midrand Primary School with years of experience inspiring young talent. His vision is to extend art education beyond the classroom and create a platform where creativity, confidence, and culture can flourish.

“Art is more than just a skill – it is a way of expressing ideas, emotions, and culture,” Mashathi said. “By running these classes, I aim to give learners in Midrand the chance to develop their creativity, confidence, and problem-solving abilities, while also encouraging art appreciation in our community.”
The programme aims to show that art is not only a hobby, but also an essential part of education and personal growth. Both children and adults are encouraged to join, with parents often finding the sessions just as enriching as their children.
