The next show up at Art Gallery Kimberley will of special interest to horse lovers.
Jenny Rae Bateman is a Kimberley-based equine photographer and will present a solo art exhibit ‘Unbridled Connection’ at the gallery April 18 to 28, 2024.
Growing up in Westbank, BC, Bateman has been around horses all her life and, inspired by other equine photographers, she began to capture images of wild horses.
“I was intrigued by photography after witnessing my father capturing black & white photos of our family and developing his own film in the basement of our home”, Bateman said. However, it was Jenny’s husband, himself a skilled photographer, who encouraged her to pursue photography professionally. Primarily self-taught, Jenny has expanded her knowledge through online courses and the mentorship of individuals like her husband and Julie Anne Davies, whose genuine and kind approach and skills continue to inspire her.
She finds that horses have a calming effect and finds that capturing their images allows her to make a connection to her subject.
You can visit Art Gallery Kimberley to view the exhibit from Thursday through Sunday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m and Today to Wednesday by appointment.
