The Weyburn Arts Gallery (WAG) is receiving recognition for its outstanding contribution to arts and culture in the province. The Organization, Festivals, and Collectives Award presented by SK Arts recognizes and celebrates leaders who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and commitment to advancing, presenting, and promoting arts in the province. City Curator, Regan Lanning shares her excitement.
“We’re pretty delighted to be recognized for our effort. Nominations go out, recognizing people or organizations that have made significant contributions to art in the last 18 months.”
Lanning added WAG found out last Friday about the nomination, however, waited to make the announcement until the James Weir People’s Choice Exhibition finished.
“I didn’t want to announce it then because we were already so busy.” Lanning continued, “It’s a great honor to be recognized, rural communities and the arts are sometimes overlooked because we’re not as fancy and flashy as what’s happening in the big city. So, it’s really nice to be recognized for what the gallery is trying to do, and what we are doing within our community.”
The Arts of Celebration and Experiences Awards night will be held on Monday, May 27 at Darke Hall in Regina.
