Benalla Rural City Council has been successful in applying to the Australian Government’s Growing Regions Fund, resulting in an additional funding of $2.965 million for the redevelopment of the Benalla Art Gallery.

Mayor Cr Danny Claridge said the project will see the renewal of the gallery’s climate control system, refurbishment of existing gallery spaces, improved visitor amenities and cafe, and collections storage and management.

“This is a great day for our beloved art gallery,” Cr Claridge said.

“The substantial financial support from the Australian Government will be combined with the existing $3 million grant generously provided by the Victorian Government.”

“The additional funding will allow us to enhance the cultural fabric of Benalla and provide a space where art and community come together.”

“The combined funding represents a significant investment in our city’s cultural infrastructure. It’s not just about the art, it’s about fostering community spirit, promoting local talent, and enhancing our city’s appeal to visitors,” Cr Claridge added.
