It’s giving houseparty meets avant-garde art party meets club-kid cocktail party.
On May 11, the Vancouver Art Gallery will host its annual Art Party, rolling out the red carpet in celebration of the intersection between self-expression and visual art. Expect food, drinks, and late-night performances within its exhibition spaces—in your most creative outfit, of course.
On the docket for the fete is a sneak peek of the exhibit Copy Machine Manifestos: Artists Who Make Zines, which opens the next day (May 12). The show is a documentation of the DIY artform of zine-making through subcultures, from punk and street culture to queer and feminist art.
The party will also be the last chance to view current exhibitions at the gallery: Rooted Here: Woven from the Land, an exhibition of Salish weavings; and J.E.H. MacDonald? A Tangled Garden, a collection of botanical oil sketches from MacDonald, one of the group of seven.
While the art remains on display, attendees will also be able to rock the night away through live performances and DJs setting the beat.
