The Bibliothèque Lennoxville Library will host a free artist talk and participatory event with Sherbrooke textile artist Maude Blondin Benoit and curator Natacha Sangalli on Saturday, May 16 at 2:30 p.m.
The informal, hands-on session coincides with the library’s current exhibition, Côte à côte, which runs until May 22. A press release states that attendees will be introduced to Blondin Benoit’s practice of creating abstract textile works from reclaimed materials — including rug hooking — and will have the opportunity to handle materials and contribute to a collective installation by adding pieces of wool and fabric.
Côte à côte combines visual art and poetry in an exhibition exploring themes of connection, language, and community. The works are made from repurposed fibres and are accompanied by texts from local poets, inviting visitors into a shared creative space shaped by both individual and collective gestures.
Blondin Benoit’s practice centres on the transformation of discarded materials. Through repetitive, attentive techniques, she produces abstract tapestries exploring the interplay of colour and texture, with forms drawn from the natural world. Her work is grounded in ecological and social concerns, and her participatory approach extends to the public, whom she regularly invites to engage directly with her process.
The exhibition is curated by Sangalli, a Sherbrooke-based artist who volunteers her time with the library to develop and present visual art programming. Through considered groupings of artists and works, Sangalli’s curatorial vision emphasizes dialogue between practices and meaningful encounters between art and its audience.
The event is free and open to all ages. Registration is encouraged, as space is limited. The Bibliothèque Lennoxville Library is located in Lennoxville, Sherbrooke. For more information, contact Christian Collins at 819-562-4949 or visit bibliolennoxvillelibrary.ca.
