Obra, a nonprofit visual arts collective dedicated to showcasing emerging and established talents, will open its “Where Our Stories Meet” art exhibit on Dec. 7 at Micronesia Mall.
More than 20 local artists will be featured in this exhibit, which explores themes of home, island life, cultural identity, and the narratives collectively shared as island residents through a variety of media, including paintings, illustrations, photography, and more.
“I always believe that art that doesn’t speak, that doesn’t have a message, that doesn’t have a story is boring art. And with ‘Where Our Stories Meet’, I hope we can share with our island community our own stories through art,” Obra president Marcus Villaverde said in a statement.
This event is free and open to the public and offers a chance to meet the artists behind the work.
Most artworks will be for sale, and several artists will have a pop-up store throughout the run of the art exhibit until Dec. 22.
Participating artists include Trexie Berondo, Richelle Canto, Tonya Dee, Jerrold Dwayne Castro, Anette A. Catahay, Maggie Clark, Lawrenz Gaerlan, Novem Gimoto, Grace Gueco, Andrew Gulac, Ehrian Marquez, Olive Newman, Chie Numano, Christina Olchondra, Yeon Sook Park, Angelia Piper, Lolit Poblete, Maila Pujol, Stephanie Quitugua, Viola Carlos Roces, Paul San Nicolas, Scarlett Savage, John E. Souter, and Marcus Villaverde.
