In a new initiative, two permanent art collections are being curated to celebrate the diverse voices and visions that define Dallas.
The City of Dallas is inviting resident poets and photographers to leave their mark on the city’s cultural landscape.
The Dallas Sidewalk Poetry Project, a poetry-centered public art installation that will commemorate the historical significance of twenty-eight locations throughout the city, is providing an opportunity for all Dallas residents to participate.
Through the project, poems will be stamped into freshly poured sidewalks all across town using an accessible, new, Dallas-centric poetry form invented by Dallas Poet Laureate Mag Gabbert, called the “2-1-Form.” Each featured installation location will be chosen with a focus on equity and inclusion, and with the intention of addressing and healing past instances of harmful erasure.
The submission deadline for poetry is 5 p.m. Nov. 7.
The City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture is calling on Dallas-based photographers to submit digital images for its Municipal Courts permanent art collection. Artists are invited to showcase the spirit of Dallas by highlighting its landmarks, architecture, and cultural icons through their lens.
The submission deadline for photos is 5 p.m. Oct. 24.
