Spectacular sound and light installation at Tewkesbury Abbey

Prepare to embark on an awe-inspiring journey through the cosmos with SPACE, a captivating sound and light installation by the renowned artistic collective, Luxmuralis.

From October 22 to 27, visitors to the historic Tewkesbury Abbey will be immersed in the beauty of the universe, traveling through galaxies and gazing upon the wonders of the heavens in a mesmerizing experience.

Returning to Tewkesbury Abbey after the success of their 2021 Festival of Lights, Luxmuralis will transform the Abbey’s 900-year-old architecture into a canvas showcasing the vastness of space.

Through stunning projections and an ethereal soundscape, attendees will explore planetary landscapes and celestial wonders, culminating in a breathtaking view of Earth from outer space, all set against the Abbey’s sacred, ancient walls.

Upon entering the Abbey through the north door, guests will be welcomed into darkness and guided through the space by spectacular projections and immersive sounds. The centerpiece of the installation lies within the Nave, where the pews have been cleared to allow visitors to pause, gaze into the depths of space, and reflect on the beauty and fragility of our planet beneath a canopy of stars.

Revd Canon Nick Davies, Vicar of Tewkesbury Abbey, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Luxmuralis back to the Abbey for another breathtaking event. SPACE offers a unique opportunity for people to marvel at the universe and the wonders of creation in an awe-inspiring setting.

“We anticipate welcoming thousands of visitors to this extraordinary experience and encourage everyone to book early to avoid disappointment.”

Luxmuralis is a visionary artistic collaboration that combines light, sound, and visual art to transform public spaces.

Peter Walker, lead artist and artistic director, is internationally recognised for his large-scale sculptures, paintings, and sound and light installations, which have been exhibited across the UK and abroad, including notable displays at Westminster Abbey, the Tower of London, and the British Embassy in Paris.

Tickets cost £12 for adults, £10 for children with under-3s free.

Each session lasts 45 minutes, with opportunities to stay and enjoy the installation longer
