Young Creatives

Young Creatives is an opportunity to experiment with different artistic mediums, to connect with themes/collections at the museum, meet new people, relax and have fun. There is no fixed display outcome for this project, but you’ll be introduced by an artist to a range of techniques to experiment with, such as photography, sculpture or zine-making, for example. You’ll also get to visit a London-based art gallery/museum outside of the National Maritime Museum. 

Monday 31 July – Thursday 01 August I 10.30am to 3pm daily with plenty of rest/comfort breaks. Lunch is provided and travel expenses for the trip outside the museum are covered.

This is a free offer to anyone aged 13-16 years, living or studying within the Royal Borough of Greenwich. 

Join us this summer holiday for a relaxed week of creativity at the National Maritime Museum. Working alongside a professional artist, this is an opportunity to experiment with different artistic mediums, to connect with themes/collections at the museum, meet new people, try some new techniques, rest, and have fun.   

There is no fixed display outcome for this project, so you can either work on a project that is special to you, or experiment with a range of techniques, such as photography, sculpture or zine-making. You’ll also get to visit a London-based art gallery/museum outside of the National Maritime Museum (more information provided once your place has been confirmed). 

This year the artist facilitator will support you to source inspiration from the Women of the RNLI exhibition at the National Maritime Museum and create work which responds to themes of mental and physical wellbeing, and how creativity can support good mental health. Other key themes that can be explored in the exhibition are the importance of community, lived experience, resilience, and connection to nature.

Rethink Residency

As part of ReThink Residency, you will work alongside a professional artist and RMG’s design team to explore the museum’s themes and stories and put on a temporary professional-standard display of your finished pieces! You will have the opportunity to meet new people as well as gain valuable experience for your CV and future progression.  

Monday 12 – Friday 16 August I introduction session on Monday is 11am-1pm, then 10.30am to 3pm daily Tuesday to Friday – with plenty of rest/comfort breaks. Lunch is provided.

You will work together to respond to a creative brief, to produce a high-quality public display in the ReThink space. In this way, you will gain valuable experience for your CV and future progression, including experience of designing and creating work for a professional quality public display.
