The head of Scotland’s leading artists’ charity has been ousted after raising concerns over the way it is run.
Vasile Toch was forced out of his voluntary position as president of the Society of Scottish Artists (SSA), officially for “bullying behaviour, threats and unacceptable behaviour and tone”, among other charges levelled against him by the body’s council.
The Romanian architect and artist, a defector from the brutal Communist regime of Nicolae Ceausescu, has denied any wrongdoing and believes he has been removed because he made claims of “financial and operational irregularities”.
He told The Times the allegations against him were “fabricated” and “concocted” after he tried to professionalise the 133-year-old society.
