Prior this visit, I too had been among the folk whose tunnel vision of the NAF did not see beyond theatre shows. To thoroughly enjoy the festival, one needs to experience it in its entirety, otherwise you would be doing yourself a disservice.
I can’t say if this is due to a shortage of service providers but, somehow, I keep finding myself at the same guest house, Hill Street Manor. My host and I had safety concerns about the faulty electric gate but, as someone who has previously been stationed in Rhodes University student residences and the township of Makana, I would rather the faulty gate.
I’m glad they finally saw the light and decided to make coffee a thing at the festival’s busiest and biggest venue, the Monument, because Eastern Cape winters are brutal.
