Longford artist to unveil new solo exhibition at prestigious Dublin venue this summer

Edgeworthstown woman Ciara Tuite is set to present a new multi-disciplinary solo exhibition at the Cowshed Theatre, Farmeligh, Phoenix Park, Co. Dublin.

Tuite’s new solo exhibition titled ‘Heavy Stuff, Light Us’ will take place this summer in what will be the artist’s fourth solo exhibition within the country.

Past solo exhibitions include ‘The Body Remembers’ at Siamsa Tire, Tralee, Co. Kerry (Sept-Oct ’23), ‘Rock, Paper, Portal’ at Cill Rialaig Arts Centre, Co. Kerry, (July-August 2022) and ‘Nostalgia’ at the New Library, Edgeworthstown, Co. Longford (Dec 2021).

‘Heavy Stuff, Light Us’ investigates humanity’s innate desire to become more minimal beings and connected with nature versus the constant pull towards materialism. The artist tries to find a balance between these two worlds; the tension and non-linear process towards minimalism is highlighted through painting, text and installation.

Originally from Longford, Ciara is a visual artist and writer with a background in journalism, performing arts and fine art. She has also travelled extensively and spent time amongst Aboriginal artists in Australia, Butoh dancers in Scandinavia, researching refugee camps in Palestine and recently studying movement in Rishikesh, India. This has resulted in a multidisciplinary approach to her practice.

Ciara is currently the Artist In Residence at Abbey Road Studio, Luan gallery, Athlone, Co. Westmeath.

The work is defined by bright tones and gestural brushstrokes, focusing on the physicality of painting, coupled with instinctive mark-making as she continues to explore the recurrent theme in her work of ‘body memory’ through colour, word and abstraction.

It is the artist’s intention to spark a dialogue among the viewer and ask the question ‘Can we prompt our bodies to remember a time when we were light in “stuff” yet richer in spirit?’

This exhibition is not to be missed as the artist uses visual art to highlight the relevant topics of ‘letting go’ and reconnecting back to the Now and Nature.

Opening reception with special guest will be held on Saturday July 6 at 2pm. All are welcome to attend.

The exhibition runs from July 6 to July 28, 2024 Wedsday to Sundays 11-5pm.
