LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) – There is new art coming to Lawton with the opening of two new art exhibitions being showcased at the Leslie Powell Gallery.
The two art exhibitions being showcased will be “Shades and Shapes,” by Duncan artist Timothy Jacob and “Tour de Quartz,” by visual art students of the 2024 Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute (OSAI) at Quartz Mountain.
Shades and Shapes features paintings from Jacob, who is a former technical painter within the aviation industry.
Since retiring, Jacob now follows his intuition and lets the pencil take him for a journey.
“I never know what my art will look like. The only thing I know is the color of the pencil I start with,” Jacob said. “I have one desire as an artist that is to draw what I see in my own way.”
The Tour de Quartz features paintings and photography from 38 students who come from various different communities across the state. OSAI is an intensive two week academy where students immerse themselves in the arts and learn from amazing leaders in the artist industry.
Leslie Powell Foundation for Art is a non-profit organization which strives to promote the arts in the Lawton community and Southwestern Oklahoma.
The reception is taking place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 9, at the Leslie Powell Gallery. The reception, like all Leslie Gallery events, is free admission to the general public.
The exhibition will be available to be viewed from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. from Nov. 12 to Nov. 20.
