OGDEN — Area artists are being called upon to contribute their visual interpretations of music.
Ogden City Arts and Union Station have put out a call for “The Community Art Show: Music.” Contributors have until Aug. 4 at 4 p.m. to submit one piece made within the last two years.
Regina Esparza, Ogden City marketing and communications coordinator, told the Standard-Examiner in an email Tuesday that the show is open to everyone.
“You don’t need to be a professional artist to participate,” she said. “We encourage submissions from artists of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels. We regularly receive work from full-time artists, weekend hobbyists, students, and even families who create together around the show’s theme. If the idea of ‘music’ moves you, we’d love to see how you interpret it.”
She added the exhibition is looking for around 30-40 pieces to display.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to showcase a broad and diverse range of interpretations on the theme,” she said. “Our goal is to be as inclusive as possible and to accept all submissions. The only limitation we anticipate is physical display space. If we reach capacity, selections will be made simply to accommodate that limitation, not based on experience level or style. We truly want every artist to feel welcome and encouraged.”
While music may not have a direct visual element, Esparza said it’s a perfect theme for the exhibition.
“Music has an incredible way of sparking creativity across all art forms,” she said. “Whether it’s the rhythm of a song, the emotion behind a lyric, or the memory a melody stirs, music inspires movement, color, and connection. This theme invites artists to express their personal connection to sound and song, whether visually depicting instruments and musicians or translating rhythm and harmony into texture and form. It’s all about celebrating the powerful relationship between music and visual art.”
She said this show will be a perfect opportunity for local artists to showcase their passion.
“The Community Art Show is more than an exhibit; it’s a celebration of local creativity,” she said. “Hosted quarterly at Ogden’s Historic Union Station, it’s designed to support artists, build confidence, and create a space where the community can come together to experience art in an approachable, uplifting setting. If you’ve ever considered sharing your work publicly, this is the perfect place to start.”
“The Community Art Show: Music” will be exhibited at Union Station from Sept. 3 through Oct. 17.
