The show kicks off with a reception on Friday, August 23, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Curator Beth Beaven Jasper, a professional fine artist based in Richmond, will give a talk on Saturday, August 24 at 2 p.m.

The show, titled “Artists at the Atelier” features works by Virginia artists in various mediums created during or inspired by their residency. The exhibit is a multifaceted exploration of contemporary art in Virginia reflecting the diverse influences and experiences that shape each artist’s practice. Concurrent with this show, work by Artspace members will also be on display in a group exhibition in the Elisabeth Flynn-Chapman Gallery.

The Cité internationale des arts located in the heart of Paris was created to provide a space for artists from around the world to meet, work, and collaborate. In addition to support from the city of Paris, the French government, and the Académie des Beaux-Arts, the Cité has 135 French and International partners. Virginia joined this partnership in 1966 and opened a space at the Cité, the Virginia Atelier, which enables professional Virginia visual and performing artists, musicians, and educators to apply for residency at the Cité.
