The following description comes from the event organizer.
Enjoy a drink and a snack, take in Audineh’s beautiful work, and meet the artist on April 11th from 5:30 – 7:00pm.
A goal of ArtsWest is to invite our audience to explore themes and ideas through two different mediums – theatrical performance and visual art. Asaf’s exhibit Paisley is the perfect example of how the work in the gallery can support the stage production and vice versa.
ArtsWest is a proud participant of ArtWalk, happening throughout West Seattle on April 11th.
Artist Quote: The opportunity to exhibit at ArtsWest alongside English is deeply meaningful for me as an Iranian-American artist. It inspired the creation of a new body of work that delves into themes of identity and cultural experiences explored in the production. Through my art, I aim to create a space where cultural bridges are built, reflecting on the beauty and complexities of multicultural identity. By incorporating motifs and traditions from both Iranian and American cultures, my artwork showcases the blending of visual elements and cultural practices, celebrating the distinctiveness of each while illustrating the harmonious coexistence of diverse influences.
Artist Statement: Paisley presents Audineh’s latest artistic exploration, drawing inspiration from American quilt and Persian weaving traditions, reflecting her Iranian American heritage.
Through a blend of materials and techniques including collage, acrylic transfer, embossment, sewing, and digital art, Audineh seeks to bridge cultural elements and transform traditional textile practices into contemporary expressions.
Her art delves into the significance of American quilts and Persian carpets as symbols of home, family, and community interconnectedness, while also creating a space for the interaction and expression of both cultures. Through this work, she offers a visual representation of the complexities and beauty of multicultural identity.
The exhibit title Paisley references the motif that traces its origins from Iran to America, symbolizing cultural exchange and interconnectedness through textile art.
This exhibition also showcases Audineh’s series Woman Life Freedom, created in response to the civil unrest and protests against the government of Iran, to give visibility to the Iranian people risking their lives for change.
