Art Connects, especially here in Greenville

Art in any form has a way of bringing people together.

As an artsy kid (and I’d like to think an artsy adult), I made friends through art in after-school enrichment programs.

In my high school years, the art room was my spot to hang out during study hall. In college, visual art morphed into fashion design and I bonded with new friends through all-nighters in the studio and a mutual love of high fashion.

As an adult, art has informed my career choices and been the catalyst for lifelong friendships, forged over a shared practice of creating. And when I’m not working on TALK, you will find me in my studio.

Art has given me a sense of purpose and community.

Here in Greenville, art truly offers something for everyone – it is woven into the fabric of the city. Which is why each year we dedicate an entire issue of TALK Greenville to it.

May 2024 is extra special as we celebrate the 20th anniversary of Artisphere presented by TD Bank. One magical weekend each May, Main Street is filled with street performers, art lovers, musical acts, demos and 140 visual artists from all over the country representing a multitude of media.

Artisphere isn’t just ANY arts festival. Adding to its history of regional and national recognition, USA Today 10 Best Readers’ Choice awards selected Artisphere as its No. 1 ranked arts festival in the nation. We could not agree with this distinction more. The festival runs May 10-12.

This month, we cover a little bit of everything — visual and culinary arts, music and fashion. And the best thing is, you don’t have to be artsy to enjoy the bounty. Just dive in, enjoy, and maybe even meet a friend or explore a new interest – you never know where arts might take you.
