What does the future hold? No one knows, but we can always imagine. Discover the free exhibition “What the horizon promises”, on view at the EDF Foundation, from March 12 to September 28, 2025.
Flying cars or post-apocalyptic world? Enhanced humans or a return to nature? The future is a great unknown, and one that raises questions for many artists. Several creators reveal their vision of the future, their hopes and fears, in the exhibition Ce que l’horizon promet, presented at the EDF Foundation from March 12 to September 28, 2025.
These contemporary artists explore our hypothetical futures, but also the belief and knowledge systems that define our vision of the future. How do today’s technologies influence our idea of the evolution of society? What is the place of religion, politics, fashion and modern beliefs? How can the way we live now define the people of tomorrow?
This free exhibition brings together a wide variety of works: drawings, photographs, paintings, videos, installations and sculptures. The EDF Foundation has invited 27 French and international artists to take part in this exploration of the possible. Joining them are three renowned scientists (mathematician Cédric Villani, researcher Emile Servan-Schreiber and physician-psychiatrist Raphaël Gaillard), for a dialogue between art and science.
The course is divided into three themes: on the one hand, magic, divination, beliefs and astrology; on the other, science and mathematical predictions about our future. And on the other, free will and individual freedom. Are there convergences, meeting points between the imaginary and scientific calculation? Chaos and order, chance, doubt or destiny: the artists bring to life these questions that have tormented mankind for millennia.
The EDF Foundation is also examining the role ofartificial intelligence in these pivotal times. Will it revolutionize our lives, for better or for worse? What place are we prepared to give it in our daily lives?
The exhibition at the Fondation EDF features a wide variety of works: sculptures, drawings and videos, monochrome and colorful paintings, large and small… We would have liked to see even more, to be able to admire more works and installations in this large space in the 7th arrondissement. Nevertheless, the richness of these different creations makes for an interesting moment, encouraging us to imagine our future: the one we hope for, and the one we fear.
