Australian musicians were snubbed by Spotify listeners Down Under in 2025, the streaming giant revealed as it announced its most streamed songs and podcasts of the year.
Puerto Rican star Bad Bunny was the biggest artist on the platform globally, with more than 19.8 billion streams, while Taylor Swift was the most popular among Aussie listeners.
However not a single homegrown artist got a mention in the rundown of the most-played content among Aussie users this year.
Australia’s top songs and most-streamed Aussie songs
The number one song – Alex Warren’s Ordinary, was released at the end of 2024 and spent the majority of 2025 at or near the top of the charts.
In second came That’s So True by Gracie Abrams, third was BIRDS OF A FEATHER by Billie Eilish, back to friends by sombr was fourth, and APT. by ROSÉ & Bruno Mars was fifth.
In comparison the top five most-streamed Aussie songs had some classics and fresh hits.
Vance Joy’s 2013 hit Riptide topped the chart yet again, followed by Crowded House’s near-40-year-old classic Don’t Dream It’s Over.
Sonny Fodera’s Somedays was third followed by NIGHTS LIKE THIS by The Kid LAROI and the 2008 hit Aussies can’t seem to get enough of – Sweet Disposition by The Temper Trap.
Australian dance acts globally are on the rise, with artists Dom Dolla and RÜFÜS DU SOL collectively earning 409 million streams this year.
And Aussies still love a bit of nostalgia, with the top throwback song (pre-2000) being Thunderstruck by AC/DC.
