Oakglen Wealth co-hosts exclusive exhibition by renowned local artist

Oakglen Wealth has co-hosted a unique display of work by esteemed Jersey artist Jason Butler.

The event, which took place on Thursday, 25th April, at Jason’s harbourside studio, showcased his latest work, ‘Islanders,’ an evolving collection of portraits of prominent islanders.

Jason Butler is one of Jersey’s most respected and successful artists, with many accolades, including commissions by the Government of Jersey to commemorate Royal visits and exhibitions at the National Portrait Gallery.

Oakglen Wealth welcomed 100 guests for an early viewing of ‘Islanders’, a project that will take several years to complete.

The display of work shown at the event featured up to 20 portraits of well-known islanders, including the Lieutenant Governor, the Bailiff, bestselling author Peter James, businessman Kevin Keen, sportswoman Sally Minty-Gravett, Director General of the Jersey Financial Services Commission Jill Britton, and the Dean of Jersey.

The event offered guests a unique opportunity to view the creative process behind these powerful portraits and gain insight into the lives of the influential figures.

Hannah Shellswell of Boost Presents led a Q&A session, and several of the people who featured in ‘Islanders’ were at the event and shared their experiences.

Jason Butler shared his inspiration for the work, stating: “‘Islanders’ is an opportunity for me to meet and paint people in Jersey who I feel contribute to the Island in their own specific way. I hope this long-term project will build into something significant and become a visual document of the many fascinating individuals with whom I have come into contact in my life as an artist.

“I’m very grateful to Oakglen Wealth for their support in sponsoring this event. It’s been a real pleasure working with them.”

In addition to ‘Islanders,’ Jason is also working on a series of contemporary figurative paintings, some of which were showcased at the event.

Michael Clarke, Investment Director at Oakglen Wealth, said: “We were delighted to support Jason in co-hosting an extraordinary evening which offered an insight into what the ongoing ‘Islanders’ project will become. It’s great to be part of an event that celebrates Jersey’s rich artistic culture and our community’s diverse personalities.

“At the heart of Oakglen’s history and legacy is a passion for the arts. Hosting this event showcasing Jason’s brilliant talent aligns beautifully with our values and ethos. And we look forward to continuing our support of other community art initiatives, including the Jersey Festival of Words and the JEP’s Writing Competition.”
