Made in Allithwaite artists open first pop-up shop in Grange

The event is organised by Made in Allithwaite, a group of artists who hold regular shows in the village exhibiting local artistic talent.

The pop-up will take place from July 25-27, 10am-4pm, at Daisy Roots bookshop in Grange, making creative use of the empty building adjacent to their shop.

Made in Allithwaite artist Steve Fairhurst said: “We hold 3 or 4 shows a year in the village and they are always really well supported, but it’s often by the same people. We wanted to get our work in front of some new faces.

“When we approached Daisyroots with the idea of a pop-up shop for local makers it all started to come to life. The bookshop team have been really positive in their support of the project and we are really grateful to them for their help.”

The weekend will offer an opportunity to see and purchase pieces from four Made in Allithwaite artists: landscape painter Mr Fairhurst; Wendy Graham bags and knitwear; Angela Pollard Soaps and Ceramics; and Floral Linings offering hand-stitched leather notebooks and journals.

The inaugural pop-up event will also feature two guest artists, Johnny Biscuit textile designs and La’al Treasures jeweller, with two of the six exhibiting artists manning the show at all times.

Mr Fairhurst said: “We’re just going to see how it goes, it would be great if we could run this event again while also keeping the footfall at our regular village shows.”

Made in Allithwaite has grown in numbers over the years, with 8 artists currently in the group, holding up to four events a year in two alternating venues in the village.

The next events will take place in Allithwaite on August 23 and November 29.
