Delve into the world of “Identity & Expression” at the upcoming art show hosted by Pearl Ellis Gallery, featuring 11 local artists.
This exhibition marks the second instalment in the gallery’s series of juried concept shows, aimed at challenging artists to create pieces that resonate deeply with the chosen theme.
This group show encourages viewers to contemplate the intersection of personal, interpersonal, and cultural identities with the artistic process. Artists were invited to submit pieces reflecting on how their individual backgrounds and perspectives influence their creative endeavours. The result is a diverse collection of artworks that offer profound insights into the nature of identity and its manifestations through art.
Angelika Forray, shares her perspective on her piece, Bloodline.
“As a first-generation Canadian, my identity has been shaped by the culture that flows in my veins to the one that sings in the land I live on now. I am what I am because of where and who I came from; there is no separation.”
The exhibition will run from April 2-27, with an opening reception scheduled for Saturday, April 6, from 1-3 p.m. This event offers a unique opportunity for attendees to immerse themselves in the art, interact with the artists, and indulge in light refreshments.
In addition to the exhibition, the Pearl Ellis Gallery extends an invitation to art enthusiasts to participate in two engaging workshops during April: “Painting with Sheers,” where participants can learn the art of creating stunning pictures using sheer fabrics, and “Alternative Framing for Watercolour Paintings,” a demonstration of waxing watercolours and other money saving framing methods.
