Dr. Dre thinks musicians should have one producer work with on their album — not multiple.
The legendary producer, who’s worked with countless artists throughout his career, spoke about his opinion with Snoop Dogg on the Stephen A. Smith show. “I like the idea of one producer on an album,” admitted Dre. “If you’re a producer you should be able to produce the whole album.
“That’s what I thought it was supposed to be,” he continued. “I don’t like the fact that there’s nine different producers on one album.”
Elsewhere in the conversation, Dre admitted that he hasn’t revisited the music that he’s made over the years. “I’ve never listened to any of the music that I’ve done,” he explained. “I think it’s going to be a fun experience going back and just listening to everything I’ve done, the trajectory, and how I’ve grown musically.”
Earlier this month, Dre and Snoop spoke about their lifelong friendship and how it inspired their new Gin & Juice drink brand. “Look at where we’re at in our careers,” Snoop said during an interview with radio personality Big Boy. “Look at our age. Look at what we’ve done. And we still love each other. So why not do something together?”
“A lot of times people have been in relationships for 30 years, can’t talk to a motherfucker, can’t hang out, can’t go visit,” he continued. “We actually love each other, so why not do some shit together? I’m doing great business, he doing great business. Let’s stop and do some business together. What’s wrong with that?”
Dre followed up, explaining that they’re simply “better together” than they are apart.
“I think Snoop said it the best,” said Dre. “We’re better together. I can’t go on stage without Snoop and be serious about what I’m doing. Of course, I’ve been on stage with people and shit like that and it’s been fun and we’ve done some really great shit. But us together, it’s always magical. I think Jimmy [Iovine] said it best. It’s Keith and Mick. It’s Bono and Edge. That’s what it is.”
