Egremont art gallery announces special feature for June

The Egremont gallery will feature a display of paintings of local buildings and street views by Whitehaven artist Natalie Burns.

Known locally as ‘the woman who paints Whitehaven’, Natalie’s eye for painting buildings with interesting architectural features has recently led her on to paint many more areas such as Cockermouth, Beckermet, Ravenglass, Eskdale, Carlisle, Kirkcudbright, and Staithes.

A spokesperson said: “Natalie started painting buildings during lockdown when she couldn’t get out into the lakes to paint landscapes.

“She now spends most of her time painting houses and buildings. Her street portraits are picturesque representations, architecturally accurate, and sensitive illustrations that hint at the people who live there.

“Sometimes she works to commission, and she says that ‘the joy people show on receiving the commission of their special place is gratifying.

“When she shows her pictures online in social media groups they prompt discussion and memories, and even bring together old neighbours.”

Natalie’s originals and prints are on display mounted, (unframed) so buyers can choose their preferred frames.
