The Art Gallery of Alberta is Celebrating their 100 year anniversary with Records of Remembrance showcase with recent acquisitions of art with some displays created by Indigenous women artists.
Each of the artists deal with the act of recording—people, places, events and materials—as a form of remembrance, an aid to memory, or an interrogation of the past.
Danielle Siemens, collections manager and associate curator at the Art Gallery of Alberta speaks on the displays from Alberta, and Saskatchewan and B.C within the Exhibition.
Siemens says that this exhibition is a showcase of recent acquisitions that has been acquired to their collection, with a focus on living Canadian and Indigenous women artists.
Siemens adds that all the artists showcased in the exhibition is a reminder of the important work of recording and remembering a diversity of voices and stories, and the ongoing work of addressing historical exclusions.
This exhibition is presented by Capital Power Indigenous Art Fund, as Siemens adds that they are grateful for their support in providing the funding to showcase to Albertans a hub of innovation for artists from across Alberta.
Siemens is hopeful that many community members will learn about the diverse stories and learn from the past, and think of ways to record for the future.
