OFFSCREEN Holds Successful Second Art Event

Continuing its innovative model, halfway between an artistic curation and a highlight of the art market calendar, OFFSCREEN held its second edition from 18th to 22nd October 2023, taking up residence in a monumental new space in the heart of Paris’s 8th district, a former garage with an emblematic Art Deco façade.

“Thank you for bringing VanDerBeek to Paris. Julien Frydman has built something crucial, accessible, topical and beautiful for this moment. His “fair” (really a museum quality exhibition) is building a “market” and institutional support for multimedia installation, historical and contemporary, from across the globe. If you believe in the importance of diversity in art history, join this endeavor.”

In just two editions, OFFSCREEN has established itself as a leading event for the practices of image, and an undisputed highlight of an exceptional Paris Art Week. With its commitment to presenting monographic works in an immersive environment that allows each artist to develop their language in the best possible conditions and in dialogue with the overall curation, OFFSCREEN has enabled participating galleries to show museum-quality works, in a way rarely seen at a market event.

More than ever, major international contemporary art professionals and institutions came to OFFSCREEN, especially with a view to acquisitions: Bourse de Commerce (Pinault Collection), Centre Pompidou, Fondation Cartier, MEP, MOMA, Tate Modern, Fondation CAB, Fondation Louis Vuitton, Fondation Antoine de Galbert, Fondation Luma, MAMC, Jeu de Paume, Palais de Tokyo, Fondation Emerige, Musée d’Orsay, Rencontres d’Arles, Ministère de la Culture, Amis du Jeu de Paume, Amis du Musée d’Art moderne, Amis de la MEP, Amis du Palais de Tokyo, and ADIAF collectors. … were all present, under the impulse of Victoria Lelandais, Director of External Relations OFFSCREEN.

“OFFSCREEN was a refreshing experience. The curatorial approach and limited capacity allowed for long conversations, led to direct sales and generated many meaningful new contacts.”
Harlan Levey, Founder Hervan Levey Projects

Milestone

OFFSCREEN also reached an important international milestone, bringing together 70% of artists and galleries from Europe and the United States, generating important sales and welcoming leading collectors from all horizons. Over the course of 5 days, OFFSCREEN welcomed more than 5,000 visitors, including numerous personalities from the world of art and culture and 150 journalists, to enjoy a display of 25 artists, including Rosa Barba, this year’s guest of honour, spread over the 8 levels of the Grand Garage Haussmann. In addition, conversations led by Scott Stover, founder of the GIVING BACK IS DEAD podcast, in partnership with The Island, brought together 8,000 people live on social networks to listen to British actor Russell Tovey, curator Aindrea Emelife, and art and design consultant Lawrence van Hagen.

“Since the first edition, we knew that it would become a must-see place during Art Week in Paris. As foreign exhibitors, the fair has connected us with the cutting-edge French art scene. The perfect balance of the overall proposal selected by Julien Frydman allows each project to shine in its individuality.”
Olga Adelantado, Director Luis Adelantado Gallery

“We are delighted with the major international step OFFSCREEN has taken this year, bringing together key figures from the global art scene, while rounding out its program with emerging curated artists in the new OFFTRACKS section. In just two editions, OFFSCREEN has set a new standard with its singular atmosphere. This curatorial lead has made possible to show museum works in an unprecedented setting and has won over professionals and collectors alike. In the midst of a plethora of Paris Art Week offerings, OFFSCREEN has succeeded to shed light on image-based practices as never before”.
