Mattel partners with The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) to combine its popular brand portfolio with the leading cultural institution. As part of the five-year global partnership, Mattel Creations is launching a seven-piece capsule collection inspired by the MoMA’s collection.
Barbie enters the Post-Impressionist era with the Barbie x Vincent van Gogh doll. This collectible piece features a Barbie with hair, gown, and accessories inspired by “The Starry Night” painting. The dress embodies the painting’s swirling skies; her curls feature a crescent moon detail, and her heels draw inspiration from the landscape’s rolling hills.
Hot rides and toddler toys are also stepping into the colorful art world. Hot Wheels will feature die-cast replicas inspired by the Jaguar E-Type Roadster and Citroën DS 23 Sedan. The Fisher-Price Little People Collector line will embrace colorful hues with collectibles inspired by Salvador Dalí and Claude Monet.
Gaming adventures will experience vibrant colors and artistic strokes via UNO and the Magic 8 Ball. Drawing cards takes new forms with the UNO x MoMA deck, featuring six iconic artworks from the collection. The Magic 8 Ball will feature Alma Woodsey Thomas’s Untitled, and nine custom phrases such as “Color is Life!”
Debuting Nov. 11, this collection will launch on both companies’ websites and at MoMA Design stores in New York and Japan. For more information about the collaboration, visit Mattel Creations and store.moma.org.
