Edinburgh NT Art Month Set to Return for 2024

Following the inaugural festival’s success in 2023, NT Art Month will be back for its second edition in June 2024. Encouraging visitors to experience the incredible array of art eleven participating galleries in Edinburgh’s New Town had to offer, the festival attracted hundreds of people to the area, celebrating the importance of independent spaces. For its second edition, NT Art Month will be expanding to cover broader areas of Edinburgh, increasing its reach and encouraging a larger audience to soak up the incredible creative offerings on their doorsteps.

Christina Jansen, Managing Director of The Scottish Gallery who participated in NT Art Month 2023 says: “We are very grateful for all the work that NT Art Month has done to highlight the range and commitment of the independent art sector in Edinburgh – each space from small to large offers a unique experience of the arts and reflects the talent within Scotland and further afield. Small, nimble and innovative, independent platforms such as The Scottish Gallery help to shape and define the art market whilst supporting artist careers in a meaningful way”.

Community engagement will continue to be at the heart of NT Art Month’s second edition. Last year’s festival saw a partnership with St Mary’s RC Primary School, where pupils created art inspired by New Town and saw their creations showcased across social media. The children’s scavenger hunt was also distributed to local schools, where families could stop by each participating gallery and hunt for a particular work of art. The festival also collaborated with Urban Angel café, who offered discounted drinks to those who completed the challenge.

Celebration

Emily Walsh, Managing Director of The Fine Art Society who participated in NT Art Month 2023 says: “The Fine Art Society is delighted to participate in the second NT Art Month; a celebration of Edinburgh galleries that, I hope will encourage first time visitors to the city’s art scene to come and look and to welcome back those already familiar.

In the current climate, a celebration of independent spaces is more important than ever, and the festival opened up the Edinburgh art scene to tourists and locals alike, many of whom had never visited these galleries before. NT Art Month seeks to bring the commercial art sector to a diverse range of audiences, especially to those who may not have interacted with these galleries before.

Festival organiser Chloé Nelkin comments, “Following the success of the inaugural NTAM last summer, I’m delighted to announce that the second edition will take place in June 2024. NTAM received overwhelming praise from residents and tourists alike, and hearing Edinburgh’s New Town residents speak about how they’d never previously visited the galleries on their doorsteps demonstrates the need for this festival and how valuable it is to support these small independent spaces. In the current climate, they can struggle to survive and drive footfall through their doors and I’m so glad that NT Art Month is able to lend them support and visibility. I’m excited for the 2024 edition”.

The List are back on board as the festival’s media partner for 2024. Further information about NT Art Month 2024, including participating galleries, sponsors, and community events, will be announced in due course.
