Planning a visit to the museum this summer? We put together some suggestions for fun things you and your family can see and do while you’re here:
1. Take in the outdoor sculptures at the DAM with the Let’s Get Moving audio guide. Beginning June 1, download the Bloomberg Connects app and take a walk outside to see and hear all about the unique sculptures outside the museum.
2. Check out the Biophilia: Nature Reimagined exhibition. Explore this show that brings together more than 80 imaginative works, including architectural models and photographs, objects, fashion, digital installations, and immersive art experiences that collectively highlight the transformative power of nature.
3. Dream the summer days away in the Dream Studio. You are invited to delve into ways artists get inspired by dreams to create art. Get inspired and make an origami piece, sketch to music, and paint digitally.
4. Giddy up on level 7 in the Western American Art galleries! Explore the art by listening to soundscapes and layer your own landscape.
5. Fascinated by fabrics? Explore the Thread Studio on level 6 of the Martin Building and weave a circle to contribute to the wall or take home.
6. Solve a puzzle in Perfectly Imperfect, an exhibition that showcases Korean buncheong ceramics from the 15th century to today. Can you turn pieces of an ancient vessel into the 3D sculpture that is the inspiration?
7. Become an art detective with the ARtventure digital program. Check out a tablet from the front desk of the Martin Building and discover the secrets of Mud Woman Rolls On. This gigantic sculpture by Roxanne Swentzell holds the power of stories and secrets that you can uncover.
8. Create in the Design Studio (level 2 of the Martin Building) by exploring materials and process to create your own unique designs inspired by the museum’s exhibitions and collections.
9. Sit down in the exhibition, Have a Seat: Mexican Chair Design Today. Literally. You can sit and try out 17 contemporary seats designed by 22 Mexican artists in this site-specific art installation.
10. Relax in the Creative Hub on level 1 of the Martin Building. Families are welcome to visit the hub to spark their imaginations through a variety of hands-on artmaking exercises and guided prompts.
There’s so many fun things for kids and families to do together at the DAM this summer. And remember, kids 18 and under are always free, thanks to the Free for Kids program. We’ll soon be celebrating granting one million kids free admission through the program, so join us June 27-30 for fun photo opps, face painting, a community chalk art project, and more.
