Red Tangent Records has announced details of a forthcoming showcase to be held at the 395 venue in Bristol on 15th November.
The label will celebrate four years of growth and collaboration with a special artist showcase in support of Prince Alfy’s EP launch, Prince of Gotham. The event will feature performances from some of the label’s standout talents, including Prince Alfy, EL01SE, Nelly Nellz, and SirMilkz, as well as several of Prince Alfy’s musical collaborators.
Prince Alfy, a 24-year-old lyricist from Camden, turns personal struggles into anthems of resilience. Influenced by icons like Prince, Nas, and Amy Winehouse, his music speaks to overcoming adversity. After relocating to Somerset to escape a troubled upbringing, he found strength in music and launched his career in Bristol. His upcoming EP Prince of Gotham reflects on his journey, offering intimate lyrics and an ever-expanding sonic palette.
SirMilkz, originally from Penparcau/Aberystwyth, began his journey as a DJ and drum’n’bass MC before embracing hip-hop in Bristol. Driven by his passion for music, SirMilkz channels his own challenges into his work, using his storytelling and humour to inspire others. His evolution, from a difficult past to pursuing his true calling, mirrors the transformative power of music shared by his fellow Red Tangent artists.
NellyNellz, also from Bristol, faced homelessness and two prison sentences before discovering his musical talent while incarcerated. A spontaneous rap performance in prison marked his turning point, and now, working with Red Tangent Records, he is preparing to release his 7-track EP. His music, blending authentic storytelling with melodic elements, aiming to inspire others facing adversity to find their own voice.
20-year-old singer-songwriter EL01SE, from Bristol, has built her reputation with her multi-genre style and raw, personal lyrics. Music has been her refuge from a young age, and she channels her experiences into every note. EL01SE’s performances at renowned venues like The Fleece and festivals, such as Latitude, have captivated audiences, with her heartfelt music deeply resonating with those facing their own struggles.
The label was founded in early 2021 by the team behind the music-based rehabilitation charity Changing Tunes. Red Tangent Records is a groundbreaking record label committed to supporting individuals who have had interactions with the criminal justice system. With a mission to help lived experience individuals unlock their musical potential, Red Tangent provides not only financial backing and industry guidance but also emotional support to empower artists in building sustainable careers. Through its work, the label challenges societal stereotypes, amplifies diverse voices, and celebrates the transformative power of music.
Since its inaugural showcase in June 2022, Red Tangent Records has significantly expanded its reach, forming key partnerships with national charities such as Youth Music and Prisoners Advice Service. These collaborations, along with strategic alliances with recording studios, rehearsal spaces, and educational institutions, have provided the label’s artists with invaluable resources and support.
Tickets for the evening are available here. Proceeds from the evening will support 395, a “multi-dimensional creative playground” and 180-capacity hub that plays a vital role in nurturing local talent and enriching Bristol’s music scene. This space offers emerging artists a free platform to showcase their work, fostering creativity and community within the city’s vibrant music scene. Like many small venues across the country, it is currently at risk of closure and must raise funds to improve soundproofing, which is essential for retaining its venue license.
