Information for Artists and Creatives

Are you an artist or landowner looking to create a mural in the City of Stirling?

Murals are a great way to bring colour and life to empty walls, floors, fences and utility infrastructure. They can tell stories, highlight social issues, provide commentary, create a sense of place or simply bring beauty to a location where there was none.

Throughout the year, the City works with a number of community groups and businesses to deliver murals to bring life and vibrancy to an area. Before you get started on your mural project, there are some things to consider.

Read the City’s handy Mural Guide to find out more, and reach out to the City’s Public Art Officer on 9205 8555 or at art@stirling.wa.gov.au for any mural enquiries.

The City of Stirling has a number of initiatives and programs that offer opportunities for artists throughout the year, such as public art and mural commissions, professional development workshops, and artist residencies.

To make sure you are the first to know about upcoming opportunities for artists, complete the local creatives registration form to be added to our mailing list.

The City of Stirling biennial Art Awards and Exhibition was held from 4 to 12 November 2023, exhibiting an extraordinary collection of 170 new works from established and emerging Western Australian artists. The works included paintings, works on paper, printmaking, textiles, photography and small sculptural works, and were available to purchase with artists receiving 100% of the sale price of their work.

More than 1,320 people visited and enjoyed the exhibition, with artists and their guests enjoying the opening night and awards presentations.

The exhibition also featured an exciting public program including access tours, a young artists sketch workshop, a local artists networking night with Curator and artists panel, artplay + storytime in the gallery for preschoolers and a special ‘In Conversation’ artists talk with three generations of creative Yorga, with all sessions fully subscribed and enjoyed by participants.

Visitors were encouraged to vote for their favourite artwork, with Iwona Van Niekerk winning the Westfield People’s Choice Award for her work ‘Fragmented Life – A Resilient Journey’.
