Denary Odyssey, an evocative visual art exhibition that brings together the distinct and powerful voices of ten contemporary artists will be held at the Harold Peiries Gallery and Lionel Wendt Art Centre, Colombo 7 from June 28 to 30. The opening ceremony will be held on June 28 at 6 pm.
‘Denary Odyssey’ encapsulates the fusion of ten diverse artistic expressions showcasing a collective endeavor of ten contemporary Sri Lankan artists in collaboration to interpret their very own adventures and experiences of life through art. Each artist contributes enhancing a rather unique narrative with their use of distinct elements and materials to present their individual stories in a singular yet captivating allure.
The ten artists are Madusanka Dimal, Rasika De Silva, Gayan Hemarathne, Kavishwara Jayasekara, Shanaka Kulathunga, Bani Manohansa, Namal Kumara, Mandira Ranathunga, Anupa Perera and Chandana Gunathilake.
This exhibition will be a new journey in the history of group art shows in Sri Lanka. Dive into the captivating perspectives of 20 eyes, showcasing the unique visions of 10 extraordinary artists
Namal Kumara is a graduate of the University of Visual and Performing Arts. With a robust exhibition history including two solo exhibitions and participation in 16 group shows, Namal’s work delves into the intricate psychological struggles faced by individuals amidst political, social, and cultural turmoil.
Madusanka Dimal is a passionate artist, whose creative journey explores the intersection of street art and installation, defining his unique expression. A Graduate with a Bachelor of Visual Arts from the University of Visual and Performing Arts with one solo exhibition and participation in three group exhibitions, Dimal continues to showcase his talent, inviting audiences to engage deeply with the nuanced connections in his work.
Shanaka Kulathunga is a figurative artist whose work delves deep into the human experience and its intricate connection with nature. With a background as a doctor and currently pursuing a Master’s in Fine Arts at the University of Kelaniya, Kulathunga brings a unique perspective to his art.
Gayan Hemarathne studied archaeology at the PGIAR, University of Kelaniya, and is currently pursuing his MSc there. His true passion lies in abstract art and archaeological exploration. His art reflects a deep connection to both the abstract and the ancient, blending a kaleidoscope of hues and mediums to create expressions infused with spiritual consciousness.
Kavishwara Jayasekara graduated from the University of Visual and Performing Arts with a degree, and he is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Art History at the PGIAR, University of Kelaniya. His art critiques use traditional Sri Lankan art narrative and its language and structure for contemporary propositions.
Chandana Gunathilake, a graduate from the University of Visual and Performing Arts, is a prolific artist whose creative vision transcends boundaries. With a portfolio boasting a solo exhibition, 19 group exhibitions, and a prestigious international showcase in China, Gunathilake’s artistic journey is marked by a profound exploration of form and environment.
Rasika De Silva is a distinguished artist who completed a three-year Fine Art Diploma at Sharadha Kala Nikethanaya in Colombo. With a prolific career featuring 11 solo exhibitions and participation in 16 group shows, Rasika’s work poignantly explores the complex relationship between humanity and the environment. His art delves into themes of conflict and division, portraying the delicate balance between man and nature, and the stark contrasts of human interactions.
Mandira Ranathunga graduated from the University of Visual and Performing Arts, where she now serves as an assistant lecturer. Her academic pursuits encompass art history, curating, psychology, colour theory, and digital art. She is particularly fascinated by color theories, exploring the psychological aspects and diverse qualities of colors
Anupa Perera, a graduate from the University of Visual and Performing Arts, is a dedicated art teacher whose passion for his craft extends beyond the classroom. With a background rooted in solo and group exhibitions. Through his work, he seeks to engage the children of his school and the Mahawilachchiya area, weaving their experiences into the fabric of his art.
Bani Manohansa, born into a lineage of artistic prowess, emerges as a contemporary digital artist. With a BSc in Multimedia from NSBM, Manohansa’s journey is steeped in a rich heritage of creativity. He inherits the artistic talent from his father, who is an airbrush artist, and his grandfather, a sculpture artist, nurturing a passion that transcends generations.
